Hello from Poland!

I would like to propose a winter race on Delphia 47 boats. It will be a part of virtual trip around the Europe.

How can I deliver you polar curves of our boats? Excel file is OK?

Proposed start date is 2.03.2013 9:00 GMT

Are the race data OK?

Hi gpawlak,

Thank you for your suggestion, I have finally had a chance to look into it.

The race itself seems pretty straightforward so no problem there. Similar to the end of the Global race this leg is quite interesting for strategy.
I am currently looking into the race calendar. Not sure if we have a good spot for it around the 2nd of March.

You noted you want the race to be part of a round Europe series, I would love to see the rest of the legs you are suggesting and the sort of time frame you have in mind.

Excel for the polar should be okay, send us the data and I can make sure we can use it.

Looking forward to hear from you and I get back to you if we can fit it in.

Hi Jeoren,
Thanks very much for your answer.
Our virtual trip is a training for skippers from our club. They prepare projects for every leg of trip. They download weather info, decide about route on chart, describe pilots info, analyze tides and currents etc. We like to have one leg as a real sailing. Your system is perfect for this. They have to compare polar data with real meteo situation and your server engine is amazing!
The beginning of March is most suitable because now they have two weeks leg from Cadiz to Madeira. If you have another proposition of timing we try to change our schedule.
Please find attached a polar data file. The name of boat is Delphia 57.
Your project is very interesting for me, I will be very happy to cooperate with you. My passion is electronic navigation.
Regards
Grzegorz

Hi,
let me know which start date will be suitable for you.
I'd like to prepare an instruction for participants in Polish

gpawlack - sorry you had to chase a reply to this via email. As SOL is now running the NYC-SFO race that is essentially occupying our "ocean" category for now, but a Madeira-Vigo routing is not a huge number of days so, looking into the April calendar we certainly do have some spare capacity - perhaps a start on 11/12 April?

Once I have posted this reply, I will be emailing your polar data file to a couple of SOLers who can help set up polars in the SOL system.

:-)

Hi,
thanks for your reply,
Better late than never... :)

Our trip moved in meantime forward. Perhaps I will propose a short 2-3 days race in the Channel (La Rochelle - Plymouth for example - 350 Nm). A start on 11/12 is OK. I will send you next week a file with race route in KML format.

Let me know if that idea is OK?
That could work BUT... as there is a group of SOLers who are, in real life, entering the Fastnet Race - see Jubilant's Fastnet Campaign, SOL will be running their two qualifying races in May.

1. Cowes to Le Havre on 4 May
2 Cowes/Eddystone light/Cowes on 25 May.

Not sure if folks will be happy with another UK/cross channel option but... maybe something along the French or Dutch coasts?

And what about:

San Sebastian - Brest with Start on 5 of April?

Is it better?

I like the route - not one we have done before, but 5 April won't work. As I posted further up this thread, you need to check the draft calendar(s) when proposing races and if you look at the April calendar the dates of 11/12 remain possible, but not 5th as we are racing off Australia that weekend.
OK now I understand your system - let's start at 12 of April 19:00 UTC?

AGage TIMED 100 Race 2025

SOL's gift to the memory of AGagewas a yearlong series of races circumnavigating Australia. This 100 nm race takes place in the St. Vincent Gulf off Adelaide to mark 12 years since the too-sudden end to the life of this remarkable SOLer. These were Aaron's home waters - he was a total competitor so... race to win! Please take the time to read the many tributes left in his memory. This is a TIMED race, so you may RE-REGISTER HERE to try again, after finishing a run. You will have 13 days and 11 hours to test your skill and decision making after the race opens.
