SOL has been invited by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron (RNZYS) to run a virtual version of this race which will be starting from Westhaven in Auckland on Saturday, 1 June (midnight on Friday 31 May, UTC-time).

We need to choose a boat from SOL's Boathouse that will be competitive with the real fleet.

Attached are the individual boat descriptions provided to SOL by RNZYS for the nine entrants.

What boat do you suggest we sail and why?

NB: The IRL fleet will be using Yellowbrick trackers and SOL will be bringing all entrants on to the race screen so a boat that is competitive (mindful of our lack of tides/currents) would be optimal!

looking at the pics/descriptions I would say or the Otrageous Fortune, cause looks like a nice boat with a wonderful name, or the V5 that looks like an aggressive, fast boat :-)
Boats are very different .. would First 44.7 PHRF number be like an average of fleet? Or if we want to compete Vodafone then need a faster boat.

edit: that was Smo sailing sol boat in Ă…land .. wrong browser :)

aner - I agree, but we need to pick a boat that is in the SOL Boathouse....

Smo - good point.. I think generally competitive as I don't believe we have something directly to match Vodaboat and... they are sort-of in a league of their own anyway? The bulk of the fleet arent' multihull and I think it would be more fun for us to tactically match the real fleet?
MOD70 - let's show Vodaboat how it's done!

or more seriously, Steinlager 2
To represent ourselves at an oceantrip an OPEN60 2010 would be nice.
Although looking at the field I support the choise of Smo for the FIRST!!
Anyway nice trip! regards SPLITPEN
First 47.7 might be more average of fleet ... was looking wrong PHRF system maybe ..

some racers might have more interesting polar though

.. Santa Cruz 52 might be nice but maybe too fast as TP-52 .. though we don't know what kind of boats are coming .. might postpone boat choise for awhile or be ready to change it :)

Smo - what do you mean by "though we don't know what kind of boats are coming"?

The real fleet are the boats whose descriptions are attached to my first post.

The race is just over two weeks away so I think we can fairly rely on the SOL Boathouse remaining as it is for the purposes of our choice now.

Did just meen don't know what kind of boats will still entry ..

Ah entry is closed no late entry
