For some time now, when creating podium images, I have been less than happy with the visual effect of our podium medals.

Created originally, at my request and in a hurry, by brainaid in 2009, the medals have done a fine job BUT I am sure they can be improved.

I have spent some time dabbling in GIMP (Gnu Image Manipulation Program) and have come up with three simple ones:

Gold/1st

Silver/2nd

Bronze/3rd

Lacking graphic artist skills, though my efforts are very basic ... so my challenge to all artistic SYC Members is to come up with new medals.

One set for Individual Races and another set for Race Series - perhaps medals for races and trophy cups for series? Feel free to be creative!

As you come to design them, bear in mind the resulting image size is tiny! (as seen in SOL Homepage Podium images).

After a suitable period of time/number of entries, we will run a vote to choose the best and then.. I will modify the files that generate the podium images!

The challenge is on!

NOTE: The artwork must be your own OR if not, absolutely copyright free OR with express permission from the named artist!

PS If you aren't an artist, please offer ideas/images that you may have seen elsewhere.. 'tis all grist to our mill!

Great! I've chatted with Simone, she is going to play with this idea too, apart from working on some grade badges.

George
There have been a couple of queries as to image size.

What I will be "replacing" is the medal+rank on the strip that I add to the podium results, the combined image is then resized to what you see on the homepage.

Thus.. the medal (or trophy for series) image can be a little larger than what is currently seen on the Homepage if the image itself incorporates the ranking number.

There are strips for each combination of SYC membership on the podium :-)

Below/attached is an example where all three SOLers on the podium are SYC members.

mmmm .... I see the file as if it were "a photographic negative" ...

Carlo Alberto
oh fantastic!!! two "entries" :-)

Jawz - please would you invite your daughter to look at her beautiful medals when reduced down to the size we need? It seems that the yachts on the gold and silver medals are less visible than those on the bronze.

Also.. the colouring of the SYC flag isn't quite right.

Attached here, for her, and for everyone else, is a copy of an SYC logo image for reference (she could probably grab the flag from it to safe recreating it).

:-D

Hi All

Simone has whitened the little yachts to make them stand out better.

Baker Lake Ice Race 2022
Up north, it’s Winter, so time to put your skates on, but first you’ll have to airfreight them, your carbon spars, your mylar sails and your DN hull to Baker Lake, for a 109nm race, the first of 4 (3 to count) at high speed before the ice melts! The Three Kings Race 2022
The Three Kings Offshore Race is a 520 nm challenge, in Farr 38s, from Auckland (Orakei) up and around the Three Kings Islands and then back to Auckland finishing where you started. Manawa Islands (Three Kings) are a group of 13 uninhabited islands about 25 nm northwest of Te Rerenga Wairua aka Cape Reinga. They're also about 250nm due north of Auckland, known also as the world's best diving and fishing locations (although hopefully, you won’t be fishing too much during the race, or diving for that matter) and it is just a beautiful yet rugged place that is a must see for anyone who loves the oceans.
