The Vision of the new Race Calendar is that it is going to be exciting, fun and diverse.

The Race Calendar contains a few more races than before a month.

The mixture of races is a bit different with two Sprint Races and two Timed Races a month. There are Championships for Sprint Races, Timed Races, Ocean Races, ongoing SYC Ranking, SYC yearly championship based on one nominated race a month and Championships for the different Series e.g. the SSANZ RNI and Sailonlines tribute to the Whitbread 1989-1990 Round the World Race.

We now have more races to choose from each month, whether you want to sail all races, or to concentrate on just one Championship.

For the Buddy-Up Races the SRC will be working together with the OPS room and Marketing. In these Races we have a slightly different approach than before, in hope that it will bring us more sailors to our community.
SOLs Boathouse are going to be updated, the most will remain and a few new are to come.

Fair winds into SOLs future!

Obviously a lot of thought & planning has gone into this New Era for SOL. The graphical presentations offered here are well organized and visually appealing.

Kudos to Sassy and the Race Committee for bringing this to fruition
None so blind
I am looking for 2014 !
Great work.
Svein, Joanne, Piero & Co ... Great work !!!
Congrats and thank you for the time you have dedicated ....

Great work Sassy and the team!
Just one question. You list the Championships above, but no mention is made of a Week or Weekend Race Championship? Will these still exist alongside the Ocean Race Championship, Sprint Championship, Timed, SYC etc?
Very nice guys. Now, as you say, we can do a little planning and select where we want to concentrate our efforts.

I would now shift the list of old series and championships on the right of the home page to a "Library" tab and place the new 2014 stuff in its place! ie, Only keep here what is presently being undertaken.

it's my understanding that the final 2013 results will be "carved in stone" and replaced by the new ones.
sassy or Piero can probably give you a better answer.
Well done!

I have 2 questions.

How will the SYC Ranking work? same as before?

The SYC Championship will only include week races?

Ciao ALL my friends !! ;)

Sassy has asked me to answer some questions on his behalf..... here they are :

-----Dingo ;)

As mentioned in home page , and as announced here (2013-12-06 12:05:52 - Re: The Future Shape of Racing on Sailonline) , the existing three rankings , i.e. WEEK , WEEKEND and OCEAN will end on December 31st 2013 , and remain fixed forever as they will be showing on January 01 2014 .

SRC is working on making rewards available for those solers who will be holding podium positions at that date.

SRC is also evaluating the possibility to free Tasman 1 from any of those rankings , in case the race might not be finished by December 31st ( unlikely ) . This decision will be made further on , depending on WX .

----nacrr ;)

no change whatsoever to SYC revolving ranking as it is . That is NOT a Championship , but only the ongoing Hall of Fame of our Club , and will continue as is .

The new SYC Championship ( one race per month and based on best 10 results over 12 races ) will be one of the so called WEEK races of medium lenght , nominated each month amongst those races . This is done to differentiate the SYC championship from Ocean and Sprint ones .

----Jawz ;)

fully agree with your suggestion as to inactive series in home page . The restyling of Home page is a project on the table for sometimes hopefully soon in the future , as it takes much more tech effort than organizing the Championships ! LOL

Hope it answers all your points so far ;)

speak soon ;)

Thanks WIN.

One last remark. The Ocean Championship link is not showing in your first post. If I click on it, it goes to the SYC Championship.

Fremantle to Bali 2022
It is time for a revival of one of Australia's iconic races, the 1427 nm long "Fremantle to Bali" race, and it's considered to be a true test of seamanship.
Last raced in 2021 Super Maxi 100, we will do it this year in a Sun Fast 3300 which is considerably slower!

Baker Lake Ice Race 2022
Up north, it’s Winter, so time to put your skates on, but first you’ll have to airfreight them, your carbon spars, your mylar sails and your DN hull to Baker Lake, for a 109nm race, the first of 4 (3 to count) at high speed before the ice melts! Well inside the Arctic Circle, this is a cold, cold place, where the wind is rarely benign. No Performance Loss, so put your goggles on, wrap up well, and try to get round as quick as you can!

Christmas Is (Pac) to Christmas Is (Ind) 2022
Two waypoints, start and finish, and between them 5827 NM of two oceans. Not much time if we want to sit at the Christmas Eve table. You will need to maintain an average speed of over 10 knots, so prepare your Volvo70s well and choose the best of the many possible routes. Hands up everyone who knew there were TWO Christmas Islands?! OK, maybe you have sailed this Sailonline course before... but it's time to get ready for the 2022 challenge of racing between Christmas Island in the Pacific to Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean! Please have fun! Fair winds!

The Three Kings Race 2022
The Three Kings Offshore Race is a 520 nm challenge, in Farr 38s, from Auckland (Orakei) up and around the Three Kings Islands and then back to Auckland finishing where you started. Manawa Islands (Three Kings) are a group of 13 uninhabited islands about 25 nm northwest of Te Rerenga Wairua aka Cape Reinga. They're also about 250nm due north of Auckland, known also as the world's best diving and fishing locations (although hopefully, you won’t be fishing too much during the race, or diving for that matter) and it is just a beautiful yet rugged place that is a must see for anyone who loves the oceans.
