Baxter!

The transat will be up for practice within a few days!
Transat is open för practice!
Hello sailors!

This is a SOS call for SOL administrators!

Because of the serious pathology, very common and widespread, between everybody SOL virtual sailors, the "sailoholics", myself as suffering from this illness, I do this SOS call to the Administrators of SOL for which with urgent character they administer us our medicine, loading a new race!

Please it is only for health questions!

Best regards!

Xinanhook
I'm suffering the same diagnosis of Sail Online Anxiety Syndrome (SOAS) as Xinanhook!

Typical symptoms of SOAS: restlessness; sense of dread that others may be competing in a race you missed; constant need to log in to sailonline.org to check for news; temptation to enter the VS Privateer race (again!).

I've tried the medicine of the RGS and St Malo but think I need something way more powerful like a Governor's Cup Cape Town to St Helena (1690 miles), or a Newport to Bermuda (690 miles) or how about the ultimate? A 16,400 mile circumnavigation of Antarctica (Antarctica Cup Ocean Race) in a Volvo 70, where the inaugural time of 102 days was just set.

Hutch
Hi Huch and Xinan,

There is some racing still left, ST Malo is still open, although no nice weather windows.
We will have a look and see what race we can put out there again. We will soon have something available for you.

Good luck with the symptoms of SOAS Sailonline Anxiaty Syndrome until we have a race up again.

I am a ex-admin of SOL who joins in from time to time.
I know its short notice but Newport -Bermuda starts June 20th 2008 1300hrs Est.
Could race as Rambler sized boats same polars as Transpac? They have I-Boat tracking for added interest(like Sydney-Hobart)
Maybe also Gulf Stream can be added to really tax us?
Carry on Regardless
Hi Seafly - Newport/Bermuda would be great (anything would be great, actually ;O)). Adding s/ware vector to represent the GS would be way cool.
What about the olympics.
Maybe are the courses too short?
Can there be more timed races. So I can train and learn the program?

Africa by Sea - Tangier to Abidjan

Whatever about pharaoh Necho II’s Phoenician expedition of the 7th C BCE, the Carthaginian Hanno the Navigator with more certainty sailed south from Tangier to explore the West African coast two centuries later, but how far he got is a matter of more conjecture. However, if he did the 2300nm to today’s Ivory Coast he would have found little there other than good shelter in the vast lagoons behind the dunes, much the same as today, excepting the highly industrialized port of Abidjan. Not a great haven for a stop-over but let’s take the 90ft Monohull anyway.

Azores Challenge 2025

Another almost forgotten race at SOL. For only the second time we will sail the Jester Azores Challenge route from 2016.
What is the Jester Challenge?
Every two years a group of singlehanded sailors heads for Plymouth to sail the Atlantic. The Jester Challenge is not a race in any way, shape or form, simply an opportunity for skippers to test their boats and their seagoing mettle in a supportive and non-competitive environment. Skippers can make stopovers in other ports or harbours if they so desire, and there is no stigma attached to retiring from the event. Each sailor takes full responsibility for him or herself, their boat and the equipment they carry. There are no entry fees and virtually no rules, although there are guidelines.
Our rules are a bit different and we have a 60ft trimaran at our disposal and we have 1200nm to cover. Let's see what our yachts and their skippers can do. We wonder what you will take on board?

Melbourne Osaka Cup Double-Handed Yacht Race 2025

Welcome once again to what these days is Sailonline’s almost annual virtual Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race. In real life, this double-handed 5500 nm race between these two sister cities, one deep in the southern hemisphere, the other high in the northern hemisphere, is run every four to five years, and this year is such a year. So, this year’s online version is in sync with the Melbourne Osaka Cup 2025 organised by the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria (ORCV), and the Sandringham (SYC) and Osaka Hokko (OHYC) yacht clubs. We’ll be racing the well-known First 40, a popular size of boat which should be a good match for many of the boats entered in the real race. With the doldrums unavoidably lying across our course, you can expect to be at virtual sea for at least a month!
