Hi, back from few days off.
Can you reproduce the problem after a fresh qtVlm restart? If yes can you describe precisely what you did before it occurred?
Hi Matai, for me, the problem used to occur perhaps 6 to 18 hours after a restart, with NMEA instruments running continuously. Eventually, when returning to QT and getting ready to load a new grib, or to do a new routing, I would notice the frozen tabs for grib, routes and routings. I tried decreasing the detail of the displayed grib and it seemed to hold off the problem a bit longer. However, for the last week, I have been shutting down once a day (actually every 14 hours) and so I have not had the issue. Going back 2-3 months or so (I can't remember when this problem first appeared) to when I didn't have any issues, I could leave QT running for days without any issues at all. cheers John
I don't think it has something to do with grib display options, and I don't think it is related to the time qtVlm was running.
I think it's something you are doing (or a sequence of actions), that triggers the bug.
For instance does it always occurred just when you go background->foreground? Or it can occurs even if qtVlm is foreground, that was working and hop, no more menus ?
Hi again. To answer you perhaps I can try to describe it this way. Firstly, I am doing exactly the same as I have done for years: open QT, load correct polar, load grib, start NMEA, loads marks, create a routing, convert to route, and export the csv file. Then I let QT sit open behind my browser screen. When the new grib arrives, I go back to QT to load it, and now often find that when I return to QT, and mouse over the grib tab, it is unresponsive (ie, won't drop down a menu) though it lights up a kind of purple.

So actually I am not doing anything immediately before this freeze occurs. It does either occur at some time while the QT window is open in the background, or it occurs immediately I bring it to the foreground and place the mouse over the grib button.

Hope that helps explain it a bit better, and thanks so much for investigating.
Viva all.

From what I remember, the problems here occurred after several, heavy and lengthy calculation on routings/routes.

The only solution then was to “exit” qT and restart it.

A Big Hug to all.

Ok, thanks for your explanations. Problem is that I cannot reproduce it, and if I cannot reproduce it I cannot fix it.

Next time it occurs, can you try to resize a bit qtVlm windows to see if the menus come back?
Can you try this version and see if it fixes the issue?

Thanks, I will try.
Any news?
So far so good but I have been moving locations and needing to reboot QT quite a few times. I'm now back at home and will keep testing the beta..

Melbourne to Osaka Prelude 2024

Welcome once again to what these days is Sailonline’s almost annual virtual Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race. In real life, this double-handed 5500 nm race between these two sister cities, one deep in the southern hemisphere, the other high in the northern hemisphere, is run every four to five years, and is planned to be held again in 2025, so this race is a Prelude in partnership with the Melbourne Osaka Cup 2025 organising committee collaborating with the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria (ORCV), and the Sandringham (SYC) and Osaka Hokko (OHYC) yacht clubs. On this occasion, we’ll be racing the well-known First 40, a popular size of boat for a long-distance double-handed race. With the doldrums unavoidably lying across the track, you can expect to be at virtual sea for at least a month!
