FYI there was some changes (fixes) in instruments (gauges) concerning TWA/TWD/AWA/AWD etc and since I remember there was once some problems with SOL can you please check nothing is broken? I don't have a boat racing so I cannot test it myself.

qtVLM 5.4.0-beta4 quick tests with sol. Intruments ok with brainaids and kipper's AG tool. Routing seems to work as expected also. Couldn't find any problems.
TWA number when wind is from the port, is colored green (not red). Is this ok? |

Yes it is normal. You have a small round icon red/green that shows port/starboard. Green in the numbers means it's within the polar angles. Numbers become red if not (for instance if you go upwind at 5° twa)

In general I feel some improvements in qT (5.4.0-beta4) routing process. I also see that one my previous suggestions - related with the CSV output files columns - were also implemented. Anyhow, some qT problems remain and they are described in the PDF attached file. I didn't find out where you: "Add a possibility to compare actual boat's speed with polar speed in board". I couldn't reproduce the pb with VMC. If I change the target POI the VMC is updated accordingly here. Concerning the "past poi" issue, in VLM mode I know a WP has been reached because VLM server has this information. But here how am I supposed to decide if a POI was reached while the computer was off? Just because it is somehow "behind" is not enough. If you have a solution please tell me. Note that in the options you can check "automatically remove from route POIs before current WP", in that case the only thing you have to do is to set the current active WP to another POI in the route and all "past" WP will be automatically removed. This option is available in the main parameters windows to make it persistent, or at the route level. Concerning the management of POIs and route etc, that is on the todo-list... one day for sure it will reach the top of the list ![]() Philippe |

Viva Philippe,
Good afternoon. VMC problema. The VMC problema really exists and, again confirmed by me. The reason you didn’t replicated the issue is probably because you didn’t use test waypoints like the ones I’m describing now. Try to put a waypoint before the IDL and another one after (from East to West direction). If you calculate VMC for the first waypoint it goes normaly. Now, try to calculate VMC for the second waypoint (the one to West of the IDL). You get the problema. Waypoints in the “past”, suggestion for a solution. If the boat GPS is connected she is moving, ok. If she is moving at a reasonable speed it is obvious that the first waypoints will be “in the past” when the routing stops. Each calculated waypoint has geo coordinates and time stamp. The same for the boat when the routing stops. If the boat’s time stamp is higher than the calculated waypoints, those should be eliminated, being he first to be used in the process the one who has a big time stamp than the boat. As for the "past POIs" theory, your idea is not a correct solution: first of all you have to understand that eta to a poi is recalculated every time your boat moves, something is changed in the route, the grib changes, your polar changes, etc. There is nothing like a "fixed eta" concept. Let's imagine I find a way to add such a strange concept. Even if you POI "fixed eta" is in the past does not prove anything: what if you spent 5 days away from this pc and just switch it on? Grib has changed, you might have change the route itself because you are on way back, etc. I can imagine many cases where it will be wrong to delete "past" POIs from a route. Better set a new POI as target, and all past POIs will be removed by the route at once, if the correct setting is activated. Cheers and thanks again for your input, Philippe |

Is it possible to have QtVLM automatically choose a new POI as target? You could just pick the POI of the route closest to the boat, but better is probably to skip the closest and pick the next one (or the one after). Just make a small selection of candidates (the closest one, and a couple POIs further down), try them all, then choose the one that yields the earliest ETA. Instead of recalculating the complete route, calculating the ETA for the POI within the selection that is furthest down the route should be sufficient to pick the best target.
When you deviate more than just a little from the route, this might not work properly, but in that case you'd have to re-route anyway. |

Having surveyed Arabia, Sinbad Al-SOL’er next invites you to race him on his second of seven epic voyages to every corner of the Indian Ocean and beyond, this time to seek spices in Zanzibar, departing from Xaafun, a trading post on the tip of the Horn of Africa since the days of the Mycenaeans and on through Roman times to the Nights of 1,001 of AL-Sail’or, Al-SOL’er’s illustrious ancestor. SOLing by the sun and the stars, aka seat-of-the-pants, the voyage will take you east as far as Praslin island, south as far as Anjouan, to Zanzibar’s Unguja for all things spices, but only back as far as Mogidishu – another exhausting 3000nm adventure, this time in Reichel/Pugh 66s.
