Board » Technical Discussion » qtVlm automatically exporting routes to Excel

Page: 1 2 Next

Greetings,
For the last 2 or 3 versions of qt, I've found that whenever I export a route in CSV format, it automatically opens in Excel. I initially thought it must be a setting in my OS or browser (Win 7 & chrome), but if I simply download a file from the 'net using my browser, it doesn't automatically open that file.

I'm currently using the 32 bit version of the latest release of qt.

Has anyone else seen this, and if so, have they found a fix? Thanks!
I have the same "happening". I thought it was something new in windows 10. But maybe it's just something new in qtvlm because it only happens after the last update. (Which version i do not know. :( )

I could not find a good way of handling this annoyance. I keep searching and will post when I found something.

it is just that qtVlm "launches" the csv file. Since Excel is defined as the default csv file reader it just opens it. That's not a qtVlm bug, just a feature.

You can always specify that excel is not the default csv file reader (or replace it with openoffice, for instance).
I've gone to my program associations, and tried to disassociate excel from .csv files, but the checkbox is grayed out, and I can't make that change. I am able to specify a different reader, like openoffice, but then I'll just have that program opening instead.
It's not a big deal to close Excel each time, but it would be nice if the file would just save without trying to open something external.
Is this a change within qtVlm? As I said, I never saw this behaviour until about 3 releases ago.
Yes it is a change in qtVlm that occurred some versions ago, that was actually a request from some users. I could add (yet) another option to deactivate that behavior, if important.
Yes please please please only drop the .csv file.

No workaround here, you'll have to wait for the next release and I will try not to forget to add a configurable flag for that.

No danger whatsoever, a csv file is just a text file with no code or macro.
Thanks.. I hate to be a pain in the stern. As I said, it's not a big deal for me, it's just one more click to close that window each time. I was thinking that it was either a bug or something I was doing wrong.

Thanks again for all you do!
QtVlm 5.3-11 configuration>advanced has now checkbox 'exported files automatic opening' added.
