	Can someone give me an explanation, why the sol map is showing constant nighttime in the Red Dot leg 2, when in fact, at this time of the year, the sun never sets? --- Last Edited by Bimmer at 2017-05-20 21:14:38 ---

	Joanne/RainbowChaser provided me with this explanation: "Dear Finn At the time Sailonline was first designed, there was no possibility for us to race higher than, I think 66 N or S ... so wherever you see the day/night curve (terminator) in Sailonline at present is the limit of where we used to be able to sail. The arrival of extended gribs, permitting us to get weather N and S of our original limit I believe occurred roughly at the same time as Aaron's death and, as you know, until very recently our Tech Team were not in a position to make any but absolutely crucial changes to our UI. This requirement for the terminator to extend to both poles is some coding that I suspect is, in the world of coding, something not too horribly complex BUT is something that would take time to do. I am copying this reply to our Tech Team so that they can decide if it is something they need to invest time on right now, or if it is something that is such a rare problem (how often do we race S of the Antarctic circle and N of the Polar circle?) that it can be put on a wish list."

	Definitely not high on the (my) list! Even if it is a bit confusing, maybe mostly to those of us living quite close to a polar circle. There must be better things to spend time on, at least for now. The tech guys are doing a really great job! Thanks! Musigny

	Less bothersome than switching from night to day and back again, every 20-30 seconds in RD 3 race, LOL

Halifax to Hooper Bay 2024

And now it’s Autumn in the Arctic, the sun is permanently below the horizon, but during the day, from c 0900 to c 1700 local time, there is some twilight – nautical twilight, not to be confused with civil twilight which is brighter. Having receded all summer, ice is starting to return to the numerous straits and bays of Canada’s North West Passage. High time then to set off on our last leg of the High Latitudes Series from Halifax in Nova Scotia to Alaska’s Hooper Bay. It’s 3850nm and we need to hurry, so we’ll take the Pelagic 77!
