Ernisss & Aaron. The ads is a way to try to get SOL to run financially. I do not quite see how removing them will help things... :-)
...one of the guys behind the game...
I don't know if this is allready discussed or allready exists but mark rounding times would be interesting. UTC or compared to first boat. Much more interesting than DTG.

Oops.. Smo here..

=====================================
Wasnt suggesting that.... Just a way to make more room if you happen to be on a tiny monitor. I completely undertand the reason they are there, just I didnt even notice them until I ran SOL in the Google Chrome browser (desktop shortcut to race page make it more convenient for the longer races), as along time ago I had installed an ad-block addin to my Firefox installation...
I help develop the client interface for the best online ocean racing sim there is... __/)/)_/)__

For example in whale race Cape Bianco or Cape Mendocino so you could later see how rankings have changed during the race.
Would like to hear some feedback on this issue..

hi smo!
Good idea!, so you could also see who was fastest in each single leg!....
....
..mmmhhh...
just have a couple of name in mind......
:-)
Please would it be possible to ensure that the race-line/rhumbline maintains the same proportions irrespective of the magnitude of zoom applied?

Often, but not always, when zooming in (enlarging the screen) close to the rhumbline, the line enlarges with the zoom, if you continue to zoom in, the line may disappear then reappear and continue to enlarge.

Attached is a screenshot I just took at max zoom in the Cape2 race - you can just see the start point and the bow of a bow in the middle of the end of the rhumbline.

While we are on the topic of the Rhumb line. I was wondering if the Rhumb line was articulated in such a way as to avoid landforms, as the sailboats must, yield more accurate rankings on the boat list ?

If this would not remedy the situation then would Smo's suggestion of tracking boats from mark to mark be useful in more accurate in race rankings ?

-------------------------------------

The Rhumb line is not articulated in such a way as to avoid landforms. This can indeed lead to erratic intra-race rankings when the leading boats are forced to go away from the next waypoint to avoid land.

When such a situation is likely to produce misleading rankings for a long time, we usually add a waypoint just to keep the ranking as valid as possible.

But we should all keep in mind that intra-race rankings can be misleading for many other reasons. When we are tacking upwind for example, those close to the laylines will often have worse rankings than those close to the rhumb line. The only correct ranking is the one when crossing the finish line.

Even though Smo's suggestion is interesting, it would not change anything in this respect.

No problemo. But before going ahead, I would prefer you to start a new forum thread on this specific topic.

Lake Victoria Sprint 2024

Welcome to Lake Victoria, home of the final sprint of Q4 and 2024. This Saturday we will sail our Lasers from Kaazi to Entebbe - 18 odd English miles in a cooling breeze, however slight it might be. Friends there will host an end of year BBQ of Luwombo, Muchomo, Matoke, and other delicacies. We will all sleep well after that. Now that the year is done relax and take in some sights like the Botanical Gardens and National Zoo. Enjoy the holidays and rest, 2025 sprints are a month away.
