Love the new extended predictors. Thanks @ij.

One small suggestion: Hourly indicators are open circles. Perhaps fill every 6-hourly circle to make a large dot. This would help in interpreting the longer predictors.

The longer predictors will be really helpful when training up those new to SOL. The curly-whirly patterns can be very instructive.
I really like @Zorba's idea of merging the 'steering' and 'DC' tabs. Maybe allow for 8-10 lines of DCs bacause if anyone is using more then they are probably using other tools to generate them.

It would also help to be able to set an actual time rather than just a delay period.
A big thank you for all the improvements @ij.

A couple very minor features in the boat ranking list I sometimes found useful in the flash version:
1) Ability to change the width of the columns, i.e. Name.
2) Return to the same boat ranking location.  For example, in the main (or custom) list, after moving the list down, the boat at the top is #5 (not #1).  Then, after returning to the list, #5 is still at the top.
Stable version of the client was updated today (2020-10-05). Long list of changes:

- Longer predictor (up to 48h, see settings)
- Relocate weather navigation buttons next to each other
- Month is now textual in date instrument to avoid interpretation ambiguities
- Thicker line for the downwind (when wind cursor lines are in use)
- Improved visibility of some text fields on map (to avoid unreadable mess when TWS/TWD values are enabled)
- 10m x 10m box to show scale when using extra zoom (can be disabled in settings)

- Improve ranking tab sort order, sort secondarily based on ranking
- Ranking tab includes DBL column for fleet races (please don't report those minor inconsistencies in the numbers, it's not a bug in the client)
- Added "race boundary" labels to help newcomers
- Use white text for instruments in night/dark mode
- Remove duplicated labels when the same mark is used more than once for the race course
- Limit TWS contours density with far-away zoom levels to improve performance

- Coordinate instruments obey the coordinate format in settings
- Prevents another fleet boat from showing up as own fleet boat
- Fix boat key (boat label on map) wrap issues
- Various clock synchronization improvements that are triggered if local clock is off by more than 2 minutes from the time on the server
Great update. People (including me) like the long predictor line.
Just a small suggestion:
1- I don't think there is any need to display the small 15 minute dots beyond the first 6 (or 12 hours). I would even go to display only one dot every 3 (or 6 hours) after the first 6 (or 12 hours), that will make it easier to see. Now it becomes like one very thick line on zoom outs.
Some people seem to ask even longer predictor. While it probably doesn't have much use (other than see expected upcoming wind variability), why not give them 72 or 96 hours, as long as it can be chosen in the options... For SOTP solers it may be useful in at least some races.

agree with Zorba777, and i do sail SOTP al the time.. let us try it out, if its not to much a hassel..
Do it today.
Hi all,

I've just updated the dev version with lots of changes. It is possible to enable DC-aware predictor already, however, there are a few caveats. The DC-aware predictor does not consider performance losses at turns correctly. Initial performance is consider correctly like previously, however, when firing any DC, the performance gets beamed up to 100% and remains there for the remaining predictor length. In addition, the calculation only runs with 30s accuracy wrt. boat movement.

There is now BBQ warning sound and a few new ruler related buttons that were requested.

Some changes are (should be) user invisible library updates but they might introduce new problems (or bring back vanishing fleet problem which has caused me to hold back one particular library update).

Ciao ij, one question: would it be possible to extend the Isochrone Calculator to 168 hours as you have already done for the Predictor(s) length?

Thanks.
Carlo ALberto

Auckland to Fiji 2023

Welcome to Auckland and, for the fifth time in Sailonline's history, an epic race to the Polynesian island of Fiji , some 1144nm away. The iconic Steinlager 2 has traditionally been our boat of choice for this event, including in 2020, the last time we raced the course – alone, unaccompanied by a real fleet as it had been #COVID19 quarantined. Hopefully, though, this time we’ll again be showing you how you are doing versus the real tracked boats. Have fun!

Susan Hood Trophy Race 2023

Lake Ontario Offshore Racing (LOOR) welcomes racers to the third virtual Susan Hood Trophy race. This is a 75nm weekender on western Lake Ontario starting and finishing at the Port Credit Yacht Club (PCYC) via Niagara and Burlington, and is one of two that will count towards a special Sailonline's LOOR Series medals. As our Beneteau First 36.7 managed the course so well in previous years, we shall race her again!

Cape Town to Auckland 2023
Welcome to this second RTW race 2023. It's also the June edition of this year's ocean race championship. The course is slightly different from the one sailed in 2020, which then also was part of the RTW series.
This time we will race in the IMOCA 60 foil, as in all RTW races this year. That should guarantee the fun in the South Seas in a truly tough race.

Iceberg Dodge TIMED Race 2023
Designed by NZL_Scotsman, this 34nm TIMED race takes us around Kobbermine Bugt. This is the 4th iteration of this race, having been held every 3 years since 2014. Climate change may have eased our access to these fjords but watch your roundings - navigating around those islands continue to remain tricky! The target time to beat is 5:01:11, set in 2017.
