Going to miss Finn/Bimmer and his enthusiasm. He was a dedicated and skilled SOLer, and did so much for SOL on Ops. He was always wonderfully helpful when I needed something.
My deepest condolences to his family, and I'll keep them and him in my prayers.

David / Renegade
I'm very glad I had the opportunity to race Bimmer many times and must compliment him again for his last victory at La Rochelle. Flawlessly sailed!
My condolences to family and friends.
RIP my friend.

In one word: a … “Kind man “!

Seems very little thing , but its value is beyond that of the most precious gem in these days …….How many KIND men do you see around in this …era ?? …..smiling? …still a lot thanks GOD …..Courteous? …..not the majority but still …….well educated? …..fewer and fewer but still ……but ….KIND ???? …..I mean those who are kind and unexpected to be so because it is not due one way or the other ??? …the TRUE KIND ……??

Finn is one of those very very few …….. Courtesy and kindness as way of life never given for granted.
Each year I spend an amount of time in compiling award certificates for successful SOLers…then I spend another sometimes greater amount of time sending them away by email one by one….GOD knows how boring …..
I must make clear that I do not expect anyone to thank me ….it would be unreasonable and beyond any logic expectation….besides …my mail pocked would explode and I would have to invest another ( third ) amount of time in reading ……..
Some …sometimes ….DO…….
Three ….ALWAYS DO ……and when I send may be 8 certificates in one day …..They thank after each and every one …..But not thankfully ……just enthusiastically !!! …..He was always saying …” ….AWESOME !!!! …..thank you !! “
Two are still alive and well ….:)

I started being his biggest fan for a first victory in SOL longtime ago …….I was sending may be a podium with a third place, and used to do all possible to convince him that …..”…IT WOULD COME ….sooner rather than later …”…( once I said : Trust my full confidence !! …I see it coming !!! )..so…..in the morning of March 7th this year my joy went over the top and immediately wrote to him….sharing with him , just recently recovered from his first health problem , the joy to celebrate .

This morning it took me several minutes before being again able to think …and now, in a desperate attempt to think something positive, I can say the only thing I am truly convinced , i.e. that it is very true that when one is solidly remembered for good …..Never goes away…….

CIAO …….” Uomo Gentile “ ……..your reason to celebrate today is ….the amount of people who are not letting you go away……anywhere.

Piero

So sad to hear a good man set sails for his final voyage, heading for the sea with no shores.
Bimmer, have a calm waters and starry skies on your way to eternity.
Ibis redibis numquam in mare peribis
So, so sad to learn of this.
You will be missed for your kindness and helpfulness

Ray
oooh....Bimmie! To soon, you still had to win many races, make your perfect jokes, and always in for a laugh.

Organised the rudder with huge enthousiasm like it was the last thing you did..

Sleep well dear mate & buddy, have a nice trip and afterlife, and a very very very big hug from your friend dikke. It was always fun racing you that will never go away..

Auckland to Noumea 2025

The ARCH competition is transitioning now from the Arabian Sea to the Pacific Ocean, featuring a 1000 nm route from Auckland to Nouméa. Organized by the Royal Akarana Yacht Club, the race last occurred in 2018 and was set to resume on May 25, 2024, after a lengthy hiatus. However, due to political unrest in New Caledonia, the event has been cancelled. Fortunately, those situations do not impact our virtual race, so prepare your Open 60 for another exciting adventure.

Sinbad by Balloon 2025 - Dondra to Toamasina

Above you see a stratospheric balloon, that if only we had gribs at that altitude would get blasted along quite rapidly and predictably. Alas we just have our SOL balloon that sails rather lower to the sea and that we have crossed the Atlantic in, west to east, last year for the first time in the southern hemisphere. So much fun was had by all, that this year we will attempt the Indian Ocean, but in four legs. Another great piece of fiction, the voyages of Sinbad By Balloon not magic carpet, although you may need a bit of magic to make any progress at times. Pack your wicker basket full for your first leg of at least 2300nm from Sri Lanka to Madagascar; it’s not a picnic hamper, you could be in the air for longer than you hoped!

Sailonline is proud to present to our virtual sailors, an all new series RWW 2025 (Round our Water World). Sailing from remote island to remote island with forever only a faintly curving line between sea and sky on the horizon. "Dry land is not a myth". The series ranking uses best 7 from 8 races for scoring, and this first race, from Barbados to Tristan da Cunha, a 4000nm leg into the Southern Atlantic, will be sailed in ex-Volvo OD65s (version 3). The race is also part of the OCCH 2025, ranking best 10 from 12 races.
