Board » Sailonline Race Committee » Race proposals » 2 courses on Australian coast

This thread is getting quite long. I suggest to post the next race proposal in a new forum thread.

Regards,

Francois
================

Here is a kmz of 2 courses in Australia, not real races, but in the same location as real races. I didnt think the IRL races would be so good for SOL so I made these up.
The Whitsunday Islands race could easily have a sprint race though, as I mentioned in another post, there is a popular week long regatta held there each year consisting of 1-2 races per day. As you will see there are plenty of islands (74 in total) to use as waypoints.
Also, I double posted this kmz in the thread describing how to construct them, sorry I forgot there was a new forum for race proposals. But there are a few minor alterations between the file posted there and this one, with this one being most recent.
Thanks, and let me know if there is anything I can do committee-wise, happy to help.

Two nice races, Aaron. A bit longer than the usual format, but the race committee will find a way to cope. :)

Three small remarks.

In the Whitsundays Race, I understand that the first waypoint is not meant to define the course, but to restrict the playground. However, that is technically not possible in SOL. Every waypoint has to define the course.

If we keep the first waypoint, the course will thus require the players to pass to its EAST. I therefore suggest to simply remove it. The playground will be interesting enough without.

Also, you need to name the finish and the finish line.

In the 'Tour Down Under', you have not named the first two waypoints.

A somewhat less important point, but one which I notice in many race proposals. The race characteristics should be part of the course properties, not the race folder properties. The reason is that when you double-click on the course, its properties show up automatically. That's important because I am rather lazy.
;)

Regards,

Francois

Aaron, I would like also to know whether you would prefer your races to be scheduled as week races or as week-end races, and what starting time you would like.
Sorry been off busy for a bit...
I will make those changes, then upload them again, and scheduling doesnt matter to me, whenever they will best fit in with the overall schedule is up to the RC :-)

Again apologies, I lost net connection for a while,, here are modifications you requested.
Don't expect you had any shortage of races anyway :-)

I have picked up on the second of your two races and will be setting it up in SOL presently - just thought you would like to know it isn't off the radar!

Having surveyed Arabia, Sinbad Al-SOL’er next invites you to race him on his second of seven epic voyages to every corner of the Indian Ocean and beyond, this time to seek spices in Zanzibar, departing from Xaafun, a trading post on the tip of the Horn of Africa since the days of the Mycenaeans and on through Roman times to the Nights of 1,001 of AL-Sail’or, Al-SOL’er’s illustrious ancestor.
