Board » Sailonline Race Committee » Race proposals » HELP WITH RACE PROPOSALS TO BE REVIEWED/PURSUED AS AT 17 JUNE 2010

Page: 1 2 Next

Hi everyone!

Y'all will have seen the homepage announcement that I am now a goddess-in-training for setting up races and I am aware, from the SOL Race Committee info in the YahooGroup, that there are several races that have been proposed by different SOLers that have not (yet) made it into the SOL Race Database.

Attached are four image files I have cropped from the YahooGroup as at today, showing the status of these to-be-done races.

Please would you ALL look through them and then (a) if you are identified as the initiator of a race, please let me know if you are still keen to see it run on SOL OR (b) if your name isn't associated with a race and it should be, then please let me know which race is yours and, of course,if you would still like to see it run on SOL.

If you are aware of any other file(s) - apart from StuArt's Round Britain series - that I haven't grabbed then please let me know.

My plan, such as it is, is to find out what has been proposed/who by/when it is run IRL (or not) so that together we can all come up with races additional to those already well-known in SOL to make a complete Schedule, as Incog was doing (and will do again I am sure!!).

Once all the "known" races are set up, then we will have a brilliant repertoire to pick/choose from - combining ocean races, short sprints, tricky runs, good competitive cruises and of course mirror images of IRL races!!

As the SOL RaceCommittee YahooGroup appears to be quite quiet for the moment and as I am a non-IRL-sailor it would be super to have help from any/all of you to suggest where would be good to race over the next few weeks!!

Please post comments here if possible!!

Hope this isn't sounding too bossy... but I really would like to see a good schedule up and ready for July.

For now Incog's timetable has two IRL races available for the remainder of June - the Sjaelland Rund (a weekend race starting 26 June) and an ocean race, the TransPac from San Francisco to Hawaii (starting on 30 June).

So... over to you!!! :-)

What have I missed??!!

<~~heading off for nap!!! Kenavo - ciao -bye

Greetings RC,

Congratulations on your Ascendence to Mt Olympus.

Your service to the SOL Community is beyond dispute & your task of facilitating the coordination of Race Proposals, Racing Schedule & pulling the trigger to launch them is very much appreciated.

One item that had been scheduled but did not launch, of interest, was the Chicago to Mackinac race. However it could be reintroduced into any revised scheduling as you see fit.

the Official site for the race is:
http://racetomac.com/
& its date is July 24th

None so blind
Tempest - thank you - I can't amend the record in the YahooGroup but I have noted that Banjul-Freetown is yours so when it is set up in the system and changes readiness-status your name can be appended to it! Is this a race In Real Life too? ifso, when is it run please?

Aether - hiya! Thank you - I am the lowliest of the gods/goddesses on SOLympus but appreciate your words!

July 24 sounds good for running the Chi-Mac so I have included it in the YahooGroup timetable (which I will somehow make visible here presently!!).
Hi RC

It is a non existing race to my knowledge. So if people want it to be run you pick a time that suits SOL schedule.

Hi RC.

Round North Island 2010 - Eastern leg was the second of 2 in a series. It was never run.
Congrats and Greetings Oh Godess to be.

General comments regarding Timed Races:
In waters with "unpredictable weather" a timed race should fit between two wx updates.
It would serve all better if there also was a "last start time" announced before the start.
Svein - useful comments - thank you :-)

As there isn't a closure date (yet) for the Middle Sea Timed race, I would like it will first close to new registrations and then the end time/date of the race to be added to the race announcement.
RC

I saw your message in chat.
Here is one I found in the archive that looks to
be nice for a weekend.
It is an archipelago race .

Mistli's BBQ-race to the End of the World
http://www.sailonline.org/races/130

I have not sailed it previously and i don't
know what boat was used . however Mistli
should know :)

Sinbad Seeks Spices 2023
Having surveyed Arabia, Sinbad Al-SOL’er next invites you to race him on his second of seven epic voyages to every corner of the Indian Ocean and beyond, this time to seek spices in Zanzibar, departing from Xaafun, a trading post on the tip of the Horn of Africa since the days of the Mycenaeans and on through Roman times to the Nights of 1,001 of AL-Sail’or, Al-SOL’er’s illustrious ancestor. SOLing by the sun and the stars, aka seat-of-the-pants, the voyage will take you east as far as Praslin island, south as far as Anjouan, to Zanzibar’s Unguja for all things spices, but only back as far as Mogidishu – another exhausting 3000nm adventure, this time in Reichel/Pugh 66s.
