These limericks saved from IMOCA-race chat during the endless journey to Cape Town.

On being a married SoL'er
There was a young man from York
Who thought he could do without work
Then the punter was married
He soon looked quite harried
And on SOL he does nothing but lurk

Following a discussion on the 2.nd law of thermodynamics
The SOL laws of chaos and thermos
Are made with the purpose to firm us
Against urges to win
and evils of sin
But a rolling stone skipper will stir moss

Foncia broke her mast
I'm rooting for Anna Corbella
and Caffari, I've got to tell ya
They may not be first
But I have a thirst
For a woman who sails like a fella

Celebrating Agage's prominent position
There was a strong sailor named Agage
Who kept all his plans on a closed page
He sailed East then South
But still kept his mouth
And emerged as personified sail-sage

On Gilles in 2nd place
Off the Cape of Good Hope we find Gilles
Who is filled to the gills with the thrill
of chasing this fella
known as Donatella
and he's waiting for 'tella to spill

Ode to theviking71
There was a strong fellow named Viking
Who to winning had taken a liking
He read the winds well
How? No one can tell
Now in fourth it looks like he's fighting

Note to self
For a Dane he did not do so badly
Although East he did go rather sadly
The forecast had lied
The winds they all died
But Mouthansar sailed on rather madly
Haha, absolutely awesome!!!
To Calamity reconoitering the NW Passage

Calamity searched the North West
Where a South East course was the best
She lurked in a corner
Though not a Cape Horner
She did put the map to the test

From the same race:

(Maybe a bit too vogon..)

Sebensa 15:43: There was a guy called Mouth
Mouthansar 15:44: who tried desperately to sail on South.
stoertebaeker 15:49:
Chased from highs,
his boat stopps and not flys
Capetown to reach he's about!

ybwlopud 16:01:
There was a young sailor called Mouthansar
who sailed to the cape from afar
he took a big chance
and sailed to the east
though he wasnt the first in the bar

<<DO NOT USE FOR NAVIGATION>>
Ode to Kalle and his Cigarette Boat

Beer&BBQ, bat out of hell
Doing 40 knots with beer to sell
Here's a regular speedster
But not a compet'ster
Just a friend with a story to tell
To Calamity reconoitering the NW Passage

Calamity searched the North West
Where a South East course was the best
He lurked in a corner
Though not a Cape Horner
He did put the map to the test
LOLOL this is great! But you know i am a "she" like most calamities?!
Sorry, Cal. I was unaware of that - or perhaps it was Alzheimer Light. I have edited the limerick accordingly.

And here's an image of Kalle's boat.
I am honored to be dedicated a limerick by the great poet. I bow and take my sailinghat off.
I also hope I can live up to the poetry and be the first boat to arrive the port of Cape Town.
The first cold beer, is going to be marked with your name on it, Mouthansar!

Cheers, V71
In recognition of theviking71's offer

For a beer and a chaser I'd chase ya
Though my finish is unsure to daze ya
I'll take my beer warm
And keep up my form
And continue to drink and to race ya.

Auckland to Noumea 2025

The ARCH competition is transitioning now from the Arabian Sea to the Pacific Ocean, featuring a 1000 nm route from Auckland to Nouméa. Organized by the Royal Akarana Yacht Club, the race last occurred in 2018 and was set to resume on May 25, 2024, after a lengthy hiatus. However, due to political unrest in New Caledonia, the event has been cancelled. Fortunately, those situations do not impact our virtual race, so prepare your Open 60 for another exciting adventure.

Tyger Memorial Race 2025

Dear Robert Neilson, gone too soon, but, a volunteer crew having brought his Tyger home in our first Ocean Race of 2025, here is a further opportunity to remember him and his great contribution to Sailonline, by blasting around an 80nm triangle on his home waters of Port St Philip Bay in spanking-new-to-SOL very-Robert very-macho, grind-greedy Cookson 50s. Tell tales of his derring-do in Chat or add something for posterity to his Tyger IN MEMORIAM Forum page. Sail on, SOLer.

Sinbad by Balloon 2025 - Dondra to Toamasina

Above you see a stratospheric balloon, that if only we had gribs at that altitude would get blasted along quite rapidly and predictably. Alas we just have our SOL balloon that sails rather lower to the sea and that we have crossed the Atlantic in, west to east, last year for the first time in the southern hemisphere. So much fun was had by all, that this year we will attempt the Indian Ocean, but in four legs. Another great piece of fiction, the voyages of Sinbad By Balloon not magic carpet, although you may need a bit of magic to make any progress at times. Pack your wicker basket full for your first leg of at least 2300nm from Sri Lanka to Madagascar; it’s not a picnic hamper, you could be in the air for longer than you hoped!

Barbados to Tristan da Cunha 2025

Sailonline is proud to present to our virtual sailors, an all new series RWW 2025 (Round our Water World). Sailing from remote island to remote island with forever only a faintly curving line between sea and sky on the horizon. "Dry land is not a myth". The series ranking uses best 7 from 8 races for scoring, and this first race, from Barbados to Tristan da Cunha, a 4000nm leg into the Southern Atlantic, will be sailed in ex-Volvo OD65s (version 3). The race is also part of the OCCH 2025, ranking best 10 from 12 races.
