I was just coming back to say that was me - dont even know why I had a sol login then - and I only use it for testing things in the client in as many races/boats as I can 8mR, but not workin gon that now! ;-)

That's the one without the spin ;-) The lobe is ability to chase apparent wind deep. It's still forward of beam at TWA140.

Polar is "raw" VPP output. No runs below 20deg (vs 30 for the IMSYC fleet).

Actually, it's tough to get a spin to perform due to some hiccups in the rule. Not sure if the IMSYC group found/fixed/plugged the holes, but the Lines Processing Program bases weight of the rig assigned to the main (%mast+sail) as .5*foot-length^2 rather than .5*foot*luff... Additionally, the weight of jib overlap doesn't measure in.

This means that you can put a 60m wing mast with no headsail on the boat for "free" apart from higher centre of effort, while a long boom really kills you. Hang a "blade" tacked just in front of the mast with whatever overlap you want (unconstrained by the rules, we'll rig a boomkin) and you have a lightweight rig with tons of power.

Here's the "wide" version of the minimum displacement hull.



The overall flare is a single plane defined by the depth requirement and prismatic coefficient. Bow/stern flare adjusts to meet displacement. A knuckle in the intermediate station ensures convexity with all flat surfaces. Righting moment at min displacement is ~40% more than the min beam version. Submerged hull is identical. This is the symmetric version.

Sorry - a bit heavy for SOL... anyways, you can see I had fun.

Very welcome UC...

Is comments like yours that make it entirely worth the effort to publish - although obviously once written for personal use its not a whole lot more work to make public, but I also want to ensure that others have access to anything I write - I feel such an open policy is the fairest... And if something I write helps me, I wouldnt feel the same if I did well unless it was freely available...

Ideally I would like to make a few of them 'browser applications' so that Mac and Linux users have equal access ;-)

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Samoa to Hawaii


The second race of our new series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones, takes us northward again up the Pacific Ocean, now from Samoa at 13.5 degrees South, across the Equator to Hawaii, famed for its breaking surf and active volcanoes, on the edge of the Tropic of Cancer at 19.5 degrees North. Beketov by Balloon 2026 - In Siberia


Way-back-when France and England, and Spain as well, were squabbling about who should control what of North America, only to lose the most of it to their own insurging colonists, their eastern European neighbour empire, Russia, was quietly assimilating vast, thinly nomadically populated territory of its own – Siberia! Amongst the many explorers and adventurers that served Russia so well in these conquests was the Cossack hetman Pyotr Beketov. Let’s pretend we’re he and eschewing horseback, let’s travel by balloon from Yekaterinberg to Krasnoyarsk – just a short 2000km (1100nm) section of the Trans-Siberian Express’ 9289km!

West Papua to Oregon 2026

Our next race in our Ocean Championships is the first of a series of great natural migrations we will track in 2026. The leatherback turtle is the most widely distributed marine reptile on planet Earth, and chooses to breed in warm tropical waters, but prefers to forage in more temperate habitats, travelling thousands and thousands of miles effortlessly annually to maintain this way of life. Our race will follow one of the typical trips of this turtle, from breeding grounds in the seas off West Papua to the coast of Oregon. It’s only 5900nm, so to keep up, but in comfort, we’ll follow in our Gunboat 90.
