Nice ideas captjack - the Auckland Regional is being run this year as the B&G Simrad Series, the Vineyard is already in the calendar, and we will be Sailing Around Turkey which is not quite Bosphore-Bretagne but at least part of it!! We've also spent quite a bit of time round Europe and the British Isles recently so its time to give other areas an airing as well!!

I just finished reading the book: Endurance, by Alfred Lansing. Fascinating!

A race, following its route from South Georgia - Antarctica - Elephant Island - South Georgia is a possibility, but some 3700 NM!!

Here you can see it on GE - would you like me to work on it?

Hi Hawk - if you look here you will see that someone has already thought of that!! Maybe you can bring that thread by to life by reposting your comment there?

There are a lot of races that have yet to be run in SOL (and if you look at captjack's selection above of his favourites, there are a lot of pre-run ones that we like to run again!) so it wouldn't be something we could necessarily do immediately.

:-)
Amazing done by 76T !! I think we have almost the samt thoughts here :-)

I just made this suggestion, because you wrote, that the SEP-calendar was almos empty. didnt consider re-runs, but for me it is OK, Im still new here.
Hope no one has anything planned for Sept 5th on the calendar!!!
(Someone has stolen it) :-)))

If it breaks, it's not strong enough!
I am happy to announce the restoration of 5 September - it had decided to take a day off until it was reminded that its presence in the race calendar is essential :-D

RC, It would be interesting to see a list of the races we have on the list that are new and waiting?. There are at LEAST 2-3 more from Jepsom, one on the coast of Maine and a several others I can't think of. With the Atlantic hotting up, I may resurrect the "Storm Series" idea as well.

Newport Bermuda Race 2022

The 635-mile biennial Newport Bermuda Race is one of the oldest regularly scheduled ocean races, and with the Fastnet Race and the Sydney to Hobart Race, it is one of the three great classic races of the yachting world. Founded in 1906, this the 52nd running of the Bermuda Race can also be participated in online.
Entries are invited for one of the four divisions:
Double-Handed Division:
Jeanneau Sun Fast 3300
St. David's Lighthouse Division:
First 44.7 Asymmetric
Gibbs Hill Lighthouse Division:
Reichel Pugh 64
Finisterre Division:
Delphia 47
Details for each yacht are available in the ‘Particulars’ links below and be sure to register your online choice on the Bermuda Race Online link – there are some fine prizes to be won.
As in real life, you can only sail one boat in one division, so choose your virtual yacht carefully, and because of the unusual (for SOL) 4-division nature of the event, please note results will not count towards ANY Sailonline Rankings.

Geraldton to Cape Town 2022
A race in the Southern Indian Ocean is always entertaining, especially in a Riptide 50. Traditionally the course would be West to East, to take advantage of the prevailing winds, but this time the SRC is challenging us to an E-W course, from Geraldton in Western Australia to Cape Town in South Africa. A brief 4800nm!
