    I don't see what is "more fair" in your suggestion as race wil close anyway. There wil always be a time when weather changes suddenly and drastically which can also happen in your prolonged finishing time. What will happen then ? People will start screaming that the race should stay open even longer so they can finish the race.
    The only thing your suggestion does is making more or less sure you can finish.(is that fairer?)
    However by doing so taking away the fun of starting as late as possible risking you won't make it to the finish. To my opinion that is part of the charm of a timed race.
    Secondly there is no room for discusion in the present system closing time is end of race for everybody. With your suggestion i am afraid discussion about keeping races open for an even longer time will start again, putting an extra strain on volunteers who, in the end, make it al happen.
  • Re: TIMED RACES - Guidelines

    In the basis current system is very clear and fair.
    Cutt - off time is specified pre race on the second and equal for everybody.
    The skipper is aware of this closing time and thus has to start latest at the following time
    race finishing time - estimated track time.

    Every second he is starting later he is gambling on better winds although he knows that race wil be closed.

    All other methods for closing are not exactly fair and independent as they can not be determined pre race when NOR is presented.

    Africa basically you're suggestion is exactly the same as it is now only difference is in the present situation the skipper is responsible for departing on time, with you're suggestion the server is responsible. I like to be responsible for my own actions so i choose option one.

    A great loss for all. My condolances to Aarons family.

    De gestorvene

    Zeven maal om de aarde gaan,
    als het zou moeten op handen en voeten;
    zevenmaal om die ene te groeten
    die daar lachend te wachten zou staan.
    Zeven maal om de aarde gaan

    Zeven maal over de zeeen te gaan,
    schraal in de kleren, wat zou het mij deren,
    kon uit de dood ik die ene doen keren.
    Zeven maal over de zeeen gaan -
    zeven maal om met z'n tweeen te staan
    ------------------------------------------
    The Deceased

    Seven times around the earth I go
    if nescesarry on all fours;
    seven times around to greet you
    who would be waiting there smiling.
    Seven times around the earth I go

    Seven times over the seas I go
    in skimpy clothes, what would I care,
    if from the dead I could do return you .
    Seven times over the seas I go
    seven times to stand together.
    (poem by Ida Gerhard)
    ------------------------------------------
    Although i have never met him i hope you can find a little comfort knowing he has been an inspiration to me and this community.
