  • Re: the great historical roads

I would prefer a modern boat (as I wrote it in my post ;=) ).
Orange could be a good choice for all these routes.
    The 90' mono too.
But not the mini 6.50. :+))
  • the great historical roads
Board » Flag Officers » Race proposals
I'd liked SOL would invite us on the great nautical roads, these commercial roads which were sailed by clippers and even bigger sailboats with four or five masts. Those roads which now are becoming record roads sailed by giant multihulls.
    I'm speaking about :
-road of gold : New York to San Francisco.
    - road of Guano : Valparaiso to Le havre.
    - road of cafe : Brasil to Le Havre.
    - road of the : China to London.
    - road of Discovery : Cadix - Grand Canaria - San Salvador.
(I have a preference for Valparaiso to Le Havre, because my grandfather sailed it).
These races could be done on Orange or a VOR70 or a 90' mono.

For example, the Round Britain : place another buoy more south close to the coast and the debate is closed.
  • Re: rounded and disrounded

I was surprised to see that my rounded buoy was disrounded later. But it's logical with the new rules, to avoid that type of course. If I had known the rules I wouldn't have done that.
But I completely agree with the precedent posts. If you really want people to take a specific route it's more simple to place more marks.
Last thing : as Gilles, I don't understand the necessity of such a rule. I wasn't there when the subject was discussed, but I really don't understand. Everybody should be free to take the way he wants, as long as the marks are "rounded". Isn't it supposed to be a strategy and routing game? Or a little train behind Brainaid?

It works now. That's stupid, but I guess it wasn't working only because I wasn't registered in any race.

  • Proposal : Quingdao to San Francisco
Board » Flag Officers » Race proposals
We just made that race on VR with maxi tri as pirats using the Jules Verne interface. It's a very interesting race with several options.
    Start : Quingdao (China).
    Finish : San Francisco.
waypoints : no wp; race completely free.
boat : a fast boat (tri, cata or VOR70).
    duration : 10 days.
For the rest, let the crew do his job.

Discovered I have no problem with Safari. So, the problem comes from Firefox (3.6 for Intel Mac).
  • problem with ruler tool
    Board » Technical Support
I cannot quit anymore ruler tool with a double clic. I have to clic onto the icon again and consequently cannot put a course onto the map.

Newport Bermuda Race 2024

The 636-mile biennial Newport Bermuda Race is one of the oldest regularly scheduled ocean races, and with the Fastnet Race and the Sydney to Hobart Race, it is one of the three great classic races of the yachting world. Founded in 1906, this 53rd running of the Bermuda Race can again also be participated in online.
Entries are invited for one of the four divisions:
Double-Handed Division:
Jeanneau Sun Fast 3600
St. David's Lighthouse Division:
Santa Cruz 52
Gibbs Hill Lighthouse Division:
Judel Vrolijk 62
Finisterre Division:
Riptide 50
Details for each yacht are available in the ‘Particulars’ links below. As in real life, you can only sail one boat in one division, so choose your virtual yacht carefully, and because of the unusual (for SOL) 4-division nature of the event, please note results will not count towards any Sailonline rankings.
