I am well aware of that, found some old posts of you, even a letter about this. A shame, but sol has to deal with it. But it's great that the race will be run! Krimpvrij raced it two times irl, years ago!

I like the idea of having some open water to experiment with courses and polars. Boats marking islands when needed, why not? Would like to see a race every night, so people can join in when they have time for it. Could there be a fixed line of tekst saying there is a practice race at 18.00, something like below

Could make the word "Practice race" a link in bleu to an explanation of what practice races are.

Anyone have ideas of how about to have more clearity in finisching times? Or do we keep Boinking hahaha

Now it works!
What does SOL want to be? is the question i am asking myself. I hope it wants to stay close to what it makes attractive. Friendly, helpfull, feeling of being part of a small somewhat crazy club anf loads of FUN!
Next to that it is a strategic sailinggame. I like the idea that you have to make a little effort to get to understand how SOL works. It gives SOL its lovely users so to say.
On the other hand, a possibility should be there to instantly race when someone new has finally found the site.

Conclusion (imho) Make a race, a short one with open registration, run once a day. Could be a fixed course (olympic, up n down, etc) Mark this race with a "get to know SOL" (or somethng like that) button and run it ouside the ranking. Sort of a playground that would be.

Run the other races according to winston's proposals

Sinbad Seeks Spices 2023
Having surveyed Arabia, Sinbad Al-SOL’er next invites you to race him on his second of seven epic voyages to every corner of the Indian Ocean and beyond, this time to seek spices in Zanzibar, departing from Xaafun, a trading post on the tip of the Horn of Africa since the days of the Mycenaeans and on through Roman times to the Nights of 1,001 of AL-Sail’or, Al-SOL’er’s illustrious ancestor. SOLing by the sun and the stars, aka seat-of-the-pants, the voyage will take you east as far as Praslin island, south as far as Anjouan, to Zanzibar’s Unguja for all things spices, but only back as far as Mogidishu – another exhausting 3000nm adventure, this time in Reichel/Pugh 66s.
