There isn't an app. But if you have an android phone you just play it like here as long as your phone supports flash player,With an iphone you will have to download the puffin app as iphones dont support flash.
    Hope this helps.

Tamalone, As Scot said above,if you download the " Puffin" app to your iPad you will be able to use it for SOL.It works well on iPhone so it should be even better on an iPad.

    Shamrock,
Puffin works on I Pad. I use it on my I phone. :-)
  • Re: With draw from race - how?
    Board » General Discussion
You can't take your boat out of the race. Just don't set a course and it will stay on the start line. It wont be doing any harm there. :-)
  • Re: Mark rounding
    Board » General Discussion
It was extremely evident that by the lack off congrats(none)to the winner that the rounding was wrong.
In order to leave the mark to starboard you would have to do a 360 around it, which obviously couldn't have been done.Saying that the server did not pick it up is no excuse to allow it. As computers have been overruled in sport before now, after viewing video evidence of an incident(in this ,viewing the track). Also ignorance is no excuse for doing the wrong thing.
After reading the chat Petrm should have done the right thing and gone back to the mark and rounding it properly or retired from the race, Which would have been the honourable thing to do!!!
There have been two Tall Ships races held and neither winner has really been valid.
ita_2011 won the first race.A race which did not meet the criteria that they self imposed upon themselves.
    1. The race was not over 999 nml
2.The race was not an ocean race
3.The race was not part of a series
So I will stand by my decision and wont be taking part in any further races in SOL.

    76T,
I dont know how you can say that the Petrm followed the green line in the diagram. If the green line was followed he would have come to the mark on stb and left it on stb therefore following the arrow. The pink line which says is illegal is the one he followed which comes to the mark and turns and goes back the way he came. If you cant see this you must be looking at a different picture. You also say that the manual is not a rule book, which maybe its not, but it does say the word " illegal" in there so it must not be able to be done!! Also as Kalle said, at a mark rounding you must follow the direction of the arrow, again this was not done.

Are the Tall Ships Races part of a series or are they individual races?
  • Mark rounding
    Board » General Discussion
Yes it has reared its ugly head again.
Can someone please give us a clarification of Petrm's rounding of Muckle Flugga mark. The rules clearly say that you must follow the arrow, which must mean no doubling back .. right or wrong!!! the diagram in the rule book says it is illegal

Africa by Sea - Tangier to Abidjan

Whatever about pharaoh Necho II’s Phoenician expedition of the 7th C BCE, the Carthaginian Hanno the Navigator with more certainty sailed south from Tangier to explore the West African coast two centuries later, but how far he got is a matter of more conjecture. However, if he did the 2300nm to today’s Ivory Coast he would have found little there other than good shelter in the vast lagoons behind the dunes, much the same as today, excepting the highly industrialized port of Abidjan. Not a great haven for a stop-over but let’s take the 90ft Monohull anyway.

Melbourne Osaka Cup Double-Handed Yacht Race 2025

Welcome once again to what these days is Sailonline’s almost annual virtual Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race. In real life, this double-handed 5500 nm race between these two sister cities, one deep in the southern hemisphere, the other high in the northern hemisphere, is run every four to five years, and this year is such a year. So, this year’s online version is in sync with the Melbourne Osaka Cup 2025 organised by the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria (ORCV), and the Sandringham (SYC) and Osaka Hokko (OHYC) yacht clubs. We’ll be racing the well-known First 40, a popular size of boat which should be a good match for many of the boats entered in the real race. With the doldrums unavoidably lying across our course, you can expect to be at virtual sea for at least a month!
