ahhh... very interesting. Wasn't aware of that.
so it is sheer NUMBERS of users at the same time.
So if SOL had a race of 20, like sailX then 3D would be possible.
But, since SOL has literally hundreds of users on in one single race 3D would not be possible.

OK Then... what about instead of having the simple map while racing.. have a satellite image all the time, while racing, plotting etc etc...
Not just a satellite image to track your boats and others which is just a static shot of the race.

you actually clicked on the 3d button? becasue there is 2d and 3d option. It is a simple 3d, compared to Virtual sailor. I think virtual sailor is great, but too much. I think the sailx 3d is just right, simple and easy, and still free.

The controls in sailx have a slight learning curve, but then again, if you sail in real life there is always that learning curve when controling a boat, that is what makes it so much fun and so challenging.
Not that SOL needs that sort of control, but the #D would make it a bit more exciting and REAL.

Ahh, that is neat. But not what I meant.
Nice to have THAT IMAGE while we are actually sailing and controlling and plotting in SOL.
Was nice to see my boat on the finishline, along with other boast in a google image, but can only look at it in google.

You wouldn't even have to go as far as virtual sailor. look at SAILX.com.
This is also a free sailing site.
You can pay for membership just like here in SOL.

Will SOL ever try to have a 3D version like SailX.com?

Is it possible?

I would definitely become a paying member if SOL went 3D.

Here is a race based on a real one. I made it double as long though.
Let me know if you think it should just be one way to Lighthouse in the Bahamas and I can modify easily.
Gonna make one last one for the SJORA series,
The Lake Okeechobee we talked about.

I have also designed a few races. Even have a race seriess now called 2011 SOJORA Series.
No races have been posted, but I am sure they will be.
Have patience... I am sure we are not the only ones designing and submitting races.
Its fun designing them anyway.

Sail Around Turkey 2023

This is one of Sailonline's iconic and more challenging races. Our IMOCA 60 Foil high-speed yachts will sail across three seas (Black Sea, Sea of Marmara, Mediterranean Sea) and two beautiful straits (Strait of Istanbul - Bosphorus and Strait of Canakkale - Dardanelles). Altogether 1372 nm of great and demanding sailing from Hopa (the easternmost point of the Turkish Black Sea coast) to Iskenderun (the easternmost point of Turkey's Mediterranean coast). Sinbad Seeks Spices 2023
Having surveyed Arabia, Sinbad Al-SOL’er next invites you to race him on his second of seven epic voyages to every corner of the Indian Ocean and beyond, this time to seek spices in Zanzibar, departing from Xaafun, a trading post on the tip of the Horn of Africa since the days of the Mycenaeans and on through Roman times to the Nights of 1,001 of AL-Sail’or, Al-SOL’er’s illustrious ancestor. SOLing by the sun and the stars, aka seat-of-the-pants, the voyage will take you east as far as Praslin island, south as far as Anjouan, to Zanzibar’s Unguja for all things spices, but only back as far as Mogidishu – another exhausting 3000nm adventure, this time in Reichel/Pugh 66s.
