  • Tall Ships Race - Lisbon to Cadiz
Board » Flag Officers » Races
As you may be aware, this Tall Ships race was interrupted by a server failure at 22.26 UTC on 6th September 2023 that lasted about 30 minutes, until it was resolved by our Tech Team.
An e-mail request for removal of race rankings from this race was received by SRC and an internal report was prepared by SRC Chairman.
This report discovered that four boats approaching Cape St Vincent TS mark at that time had been adversely effected by the outage such they missed the correct rounding of that mark because their delayed command (DC) fired prematurely as the DC system cannot account for server outage.
One of the four boats affected was Go4iT (my boat) and so my report was limited to establishing the facts for SRC to debate, discuss and decide but I recused myself from that phase because I was an interested party.
I am aware that the SRC considered a number of solutions prior to abandoning the result of the race because they concluded that it was not possible to reinstate the impacted boats in a manner that was fair both to the unaffected boats and to the affected boats.
So the SRC concluded to schedule a resail. This resail will happen at the beginning of October 2023 as the new Calendar for Q4 is being finalised as I write.
It was unfortunate that this outage impacted at or near the time of a rounding and this rendered any evaluation of its impact on affected boats as a very judgemental exercise and so a re-run was selected as the most equitable solution.
Let us hope for favourable wind.
To fully conclude this server outage, SRC did not consider the incident to have had any material impact on the Maryland to Alaska Ocean Race or the Foveaux Strait Timed Race.

Hi NNYC MarkJohnson My OPS colleague advises me that our contact at Winnebago now runs a full winter VR series with others and so would not be interested in us. Whence we have ventured to new ice locations.

Round Greenland 2024

Just as Skip Novak was embarking for Kamchatsky, Amyr Klink also quietly slipped his Antarctica moorings and by now Paratii 2 has reached Reykjavik, where he invites you to join him on Leg 5 of our High Latitudes Series, a full 3650nm circumnavigation of Greenland. The course is clockwise round, so down the North Atlantic to Cape Farewell, then up the Davis Strait into Baffin Bay and on into the Arctic Ocean proper, where, hopefully and certainly virtually, Paratii 2’s special ice-breaker features will get us thorough the summer ice out onto the Greenland Sea and back to Reykjavik. Stay warm!
