    Hi, here my 5 cents.
    I agree that duration should not be less than 3 weeks so to avoid getting full routing from the very beginning until finish line. This might come from the mix between boat, lenght and average winds. I like races where we have to take bold decisions on which route to take and where we have multiple routes possible. I believe landmasses well placed are very helpful on forcing decisions on which direction to take. The last Christmas2Christmas was e nice case where we had to take a decision right at the start, mine was wrong and wrong and wrong but I liked the race. Also the Melbourne to Osaka with the Solomon in the middle forced us to take decisions on which canal to take (here I made a good mistake that sent me on the right way).
    Would be also interesting to have 2 or more boats possible for the same race. This might also result in races with boats spread around with, hopefully, strong fights for winning the race until the end.
    Most important: THANK YOU to all the people designing the races and taking care of all the other aspects. We can improve but there is a solid work done in the background! Sometimes races might not be perfect but the work done is huge and I am always happy to race in SOL.

    I met Tyger so many times in SOL that it feels really painful to write these lines. There are some SOLers who stands up from the fleet and Tyger was one of them. During races, ocean in particular, I always kept an eye on Tyger to see and learn about best routes. He had a fantastic touch and was always in the top positions.
    I remember in a race I was lost in the middle of nowhere with the fleet far ahead. I spotted Tyger passing near by and I just had to follow his steps to get back in the fleet.
    I heard something about health problems affecting Rob during the last Hobart2Sydney but it seemed everything was under control. Then during the Cape Horn to Olon Tyger went adrift and the terrible news came up.
    Now I am blessed by having the honour to bring Tyger to the finish line together with SCARABOCCHIO, WRmirekd and Dingo.
    Hey Rob, I hear you! You're laughting from up there seeing my poor performance in steering your boat. I'm sure you would do much better!

    I only knew Tyger, never been so lucky to meet Rob in person.

    I still have no access... did try all the tricks mentioned.

    I have latest Chrome with updated player, did clean cache (both), enabled pop-up...

    'UN VA UNA S**A NULLA! :-)

    Did try IE8 and firefox with same result...

    Am I the only one? if so enjoy the new version otherwise "maybe" it's not so fair to have part of the boats with such an amazing set of tools....

    Admin excluded ;-)

    p.s. did try to download Safari, it seems they have problems so I cannot download!!! Maybe better I try again tomorrow at 17:17 ??? :-(

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Samoa to Hawaii


The second race of our new series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones, takes us northward again up the Pacific Ocean, now from Samoa at 13.5 degrees South, across the Equator to Hawaii, famed for its breaking surf and active volcanoes, on the edge of the Tropic of Cancer at 19.5 degrees North. Beketov by Balloon 2026 - In Siberia


Way-back-when France and England, and Spain as well, were squabbling about who should control what of North America, only to lose the most of it to their own insurging colonists, their eastern European neighbour empire, Russia, was quietly assimilating vast, thinly nomadically populated territory of its own – Siberia! Amongst the many explorers and adventurers that served Russia so well in these conquests was the Cossack hetman Pyotr Beketov. Let’s pretend we’re he and eschewing horseback, let’s travel by balloon from Yekaterinberg to Krasnoyarsk – just a short 2000km (1100nm) section of the Trans-Siberian Express’ 9289km!

West Papua to Oregon 2026

Our next race in our Ocean Championships is the first of a series of great natural migrations we will track in 2026. The leatherback turtle is the most widely distributed marine reptile on planet Earth, and chooses to breed in warm tropical waters, but prefers to forage in more temperate habitats, travelling thousands and thousands of miles effortlessly annually to maintain this way of life. Our race will follow one of the typical trips of this turtle, from breeding grounds in the seas off West Papua to the coast of Oregon. It’s only 5900nm, so to keep up, but in comfort, we’ll follow in our Gunboat 90.
