I think just forbidding jumping will solve 99 % of the problem. What will be left are accidental jumps.

Why no forbid SLI jumping immediately and enforce it through the umpire system? I think that would be a good way to test the umpire system, and we would get rid of one of the issues causing disagreement and discussion.

  • Re: SOL RULES OF RACING

I think it is great the rules get formalised and compiled into one clear document, and the rules look good to me.

The only comment I have is SLI jumping, the current formulation is quite ambiguous and as such does not provide much additional value. The current formulation gives the impression that SLI jumping is allowed, but not considered recommendable behavior, a mixed message, which should not have a place in a rule book.

I think it is clear to everyone jumping is done at own risk. If you don't want to forbid SLI jumping, I'd leave that out altogether. On the other hand, as I've stated earlier elsewhere, I would not oppose forbidding SLI jumping, and it could easily be enforced through the umpire system. You either explicitly allow it, explicitly forbid it, or don't mention it in the rules.

As a side note, so long as SLI jumping is not explicitly forbidden, I will consider it allowed and I will utilise it to the extent I see it useful. I hope I will not be considered a cheater because I do something allowed by the rules.

Course summary: Race from Atlantic to Pacific through the Panama Canal

    Boats: First 47.7

    Distance: 35 nm

    Estimated duration: 4-8 hours

    Race type: Timed

Description: We take our Firsts from the Atlantic to the Pacific through the Panama Canal. Picking the correct time for the traverse is of utmost importance as the canal leaves little room for maneuvering!

For easier viewing, I included pics of the course both on Google Earth as well as SOL chart.

  • Round Kumlinge
Board » Flag Officers » Race proposals
Course summary: Quick daycruise around the island of Kumlinge

Boats: Swan 36 for timed races, F18 or Seacart 30 for sprints

    Estimated duration: 2-6 hours

    Race type: Timed or sprint

Description: We race around the beautiful island of Kumlinge. The trianglish shape of the course should make sure the race is not just about rounding corners and/or marks. Part of the fun is picking your route through the beautiful Finnish archipelago, unfortunately we have limited possibilities to simulate the myriads of underwater rocks on the course!

For easier viewing, I included pics of the course both on Google Earth as well as SOL chart.

"Previously there was a small "feature" that when a boat started a race with a command during towback time...
...This is why sometimes you would get the first turn after start free of performance hit but it is now fixed."

Ahh, so this was not an undocumented feature, but a bug;)

  • Re: Weather
    Board » General Discussion
My understanding is that the weather comes directly from NOAA.

Some manipulation is done when a new wx is loaded to the game, namely the firs hour is interpolated from the "old" wx to the "new" wx so there is no discontinuity.

Maybe someone who knows better the stuff under the hood can explain this better.

Aden to Goa 2025

Europeans are primarily acquainted with the historical narrative of how spices reached their continent from distant regions. However, the spice trade from Goa to Aden predates the modern era, as detailed in this article. Sailonline is now reversing this route, organizing an eastbound yacht race of approximately 1700 nautical miles across the Arabian Sea for our 21st-century Archer 78 yachts. Wishing you fair winds and may the enticing aroma of spices guide you safely to your destination!

Lake Namtso Ice Race

To kick off our annual Ice Yachting Series, we will travel to Tibet and to one of the World’s highest lakes, Namtso, the “Heavenly Lake”, at an altitude of 4720m. Just fly to Gonggar Airport via Kathmandu, and get a taxi to Lhasa where the Dali Lama lives, then hire a truck with guide to take you and your DN and gear a further 200km north across the Nyenchen Tanglha mountains to Xianga where a 95nm triangle will be beaconed out on the ice for your enjoyment. Although like most of the Tibetan lakes, Namtso is a saline sump with no outflows, rest assured it is bitter cold there and ice is guaranteed. Mind the monks, you’ve no PL!
