May I respectfully submit a request that the course for Leg 3 have the stipulation that boats pass to the SOUTH of Dondra Head (lat:5*55'09.35 N ; Long:80*35'14.49 E ) on Sri Lanka.
The Palk Strait is limited to depths of 1 metre at the shoals of Adam's Bridge, so it's pretty obvious that VO70 yachts could not be navigated through this area.
I recall in the last SOL World race this was allowed and boats gained an advantage. In the interest of realism perhaps this could be accomadated?

Can someone explain how the boats are updated to our computers in the flash program? I find that lately I am frozen out of the game at least once or twice a day, needing refresh to advance to the current position . This is also always happenning at turning points (just like good old beta !!). Causes alot of anxt and stuff. :(

Are there "ideal settings" we should have to configure the computer to facilitate the live flash ,would like to know.
    I have a suspicion I'm not alone.

I'm with you Lakis. I think the Volvo race has become a commercial trip. The REAL race will always be down South. At least the Vendee and it's participants have the smarts and common sense to go with the wind.Long live frontier sailing.

I know its short notice but Newport -Bermuda starts June 20th 2008 1300hrs Est.
Could race as Rambler sized boats same polars as Transpac? They have I-Boat tracking for added interest(like Sydney-Hobart)
Maybe also Gulf Stream can be added to really tax us?

    Hello,
During the Venerace when rounding Vanersborg mark I lost "connection with the "server"" at the critical moment.I was in company with a lot of boats and by the time I got back had lost 30 places. At Kristinehamn again just prior to rounding lost connection again? This time regained connection in time,Is the "server" yours and does it get Overloaded??Both times alot of boats in my vicinity ;encountered no connection losses with "server" at any other times!

    Hi,
Is there a specific course of marks to round on this race? I have done a practice run but ,after rounding Hoburg I have lost rank going forward!
I have sailed the same direction as the others.Don't know what I did wrong?

Auckland to Noumea 2025

The ARCH competition is transitioning now from the Arabian Sea to the Pacific Ocean, featuring a 1000 nm route from Auckland to Nouméa. Organized by the Royal Akarana Yacht Club, the race last occurred in 2018 and was set to resume on May 25, 2024, after a lengthy hiatus. However, due to political unrest in New Caledonia, the event has been cancelled. Fortunately, those situations do not impact our virtual race, so prepare your Open 60 for another exciting adventure.

Tyger Memorial Race 2025

Dear Robert Neilson, gone too soon, but, a volunteer crew having brought his Tyger home in our first Ocean Race of 2025, here is a further opportunity to remember him and his great contribution to Sailonline, by blasting around an 80nm triangle on his home waters of Port St Philip Bay in spanking-new-to-SOL very-Robert very-macho, grind-greedy Cookson 50s. Tell tales of his derring-do in Chat or add something for posterity to his Tyger IN MEMORIAM Forum page. Sail on, SOLer.

Sinbad by Balloon 2025 - Dondra to Toamasina

Above you see a stratospheric balloon, that if only we had gribs at that altitude would get blasted along quite rapidly and predictably. Alas we just have our SOL balloon that sails rather lower to the sea and that we have crossed the Atlantic in, west to east, last year for the first time in the southern hemisphere. So much fun was had by all, that this year we will attempt the Indian Ocean, but in four legs. Another great piece of fiction, the voyages of Sinbad By Balloon not magic carpet, although you may need a bit of magic to make any progress at times. Pack your wicker basket full for your first leg of at least 2300nm from Sri Lanka to Madagascar; it’s not a picnic hamper, you could be in the air for longer than you hoped!

Barbados to Tristan da Cunha 2025

Sailonline is proud to present to our virtual sailors, an all new series RWW 2025 (Round our Water World). Sailing from remote island to remote island with forever only a faintly curving line between sea and sky on the horizon. "Dry land is not a myth". The series ranking uses best 7 from 8 races for scoring, and this first race, from Barbados to Tristan da Cunha, a 4000nm leg into the Southern Atlantic, will be sailed in ex-Volvo OD65s (version 3). The race is also part of the OCCH 2025, ranking best 10 from 12 races.
