    Yakka, friend, man,

my dearest wishes from on bord DYNE GER 3536.

I once provide pre race weather to you and fellows on Outrageous and you had the "perfect storm" on your way back...

You are so full of sailing spirit, I learned so much from you.

We shared so many a night.

You knew how to party, and Mount Gay was one of your favourite rums. We had some on board and poured a bit for your into the big blue. The great amaze came from the photo plancton giving a big, and it was really big, big big explosion of sparcles to the rum. What a never before experienced joy.

The ocean seems to still remember you, Yakka.

You must be closer to here, now you are below sea level over in NZL...

All my love and thoughts to you and your family.

This is brainaid, from abord SY DYNE, http://dyne.hamburg.

    Farewell, my friend.

  • Off Topic: Search for a space for an X-79
    Board » General Discussion
    Dear fellow SOLers,

it is very clear to me this is off topic, but I need to try any opportunity...

I urgently need a place to store an X-79 for the next few month/years on a trailer. The place needs to have a 3m wide door and must have a door height of 3.3m, 3.6m preferred, the latter fits mast on boat on trailer.

All this should be somewhere near 4800 Verviers in Belgium, I don't care whether this is in Netherland or Germany or Belgium.

As I do not use facebook (and do not want to), I'd like to ask you to share this request with your friends and please inform me if you hear anything.

    Thanks for all in advance.

You can reach me through here, or via my website sol.brainaid.de.

    Good winds,
    Eddie

  • Re: Shortened WX Downloads from Brainaids Site Update
    Board » Technical Support
The problem was due to my bad PHP coding, which led to the limit of one megabyte.

This is fixed now and should work again for the larger weather files.

    I hope this helps,

    Dear Sirs,

it has been a long time racing for me here, and many new people might not know me.

Anyway, I am looking for a berth for a 43ft yacht close to Gothenburg (SWE) during the weekend 28. Aug - 31. Aug.

    You'll all know why ;)

The yacht is at home there, she's a Dynamic 43, named DYNE, nordic breed as our X-79 matchbox before.

Any hints are greatly appreciated. And we do have a great selection of highland single malts (mainly Islay) on board.

    Cheers,
    Eddie (brainaid)

    Hi all,

I have fixed a problem with Cookie management inside the NMEAproxy, this should work with Java 7 now. You will still get a warning about unknown publisher, as I do not have an officially signed certificate...

Please re-test with Java 7 and report your success or failure. Thanks a lot!

    Cheers,
    Eddie

I renamed the file to boat_xxx.csv to be handled more easily by QtVlm.

I have added QtVlm polar downloads to my sailonline toolbox, please test and tell me whether this works with QtVlm.

If the downloaded files are good for QtVlm, please spread the word to others.

    Thanks!

    Cheers,
    Eddie

  • Re: Brainaid NMEA Java app
    Board » Technical Support
There is a problem in the javaws.exe distributed with Java 7.

I found a detailed description here.

The problem is with the URL inside the .jnlp file, this contains something like "?boat=12345&race=123" which is needed to pass these values to the NMEAproxy. But this part of the URL makes the javaws.exe program crash.

The link above explains this in detail and the recommendation is to install Java 6 update 35 or higher, as there are many exploits (things that make your computer very vulnerable) inside Java 7 anyway...

I have added a link to the Java 6 download page to sailonline/toolbox.

    I hope this helps,
    Eddie

I have tried to force using Java 6 by changing the launcher file.

Could you please try what happens now? - Thanks a lot!

On Linux, I see no problems with Java 7.07, this makes it difficult for me to debug this issue...

Sorry guys, but I have no idea so far, except that for some reason Windows >= 7 and newer Java are not supported...

I will poke around the problem, but as I do not use Windows at all this will happen in the background at low priority unless I get help by someone with Java programming and Windows >= 7 experience.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Port Said to Tangier

Back in the 7th C BCE, pharaoh Necho II may have commissioned Phoenician sailors to explore south down the Red Sea and if possible return north via the Straits of Gibraltar. Herodotus was inclined to dismiss the story as it included reports of the sun standing in the north, which had to be nonsense. Silly old Herodotus, but who cares, 2800 years later we will repeat the feat, but we’ll go the other way round, and not in a galley but in different modern sailing yachts, beginning with the comfort of an IY 14.98 for the first leg of 1900nm from Port Said to Tangier.

Aden to Goa 2025

Europeans are primarily acquainted with the historical narrative of how spices reached their continent from distant regions. However, the spice trade from Goa to Aden predates the modern era, as detailed in this article. Sailonline is now reversing this route, organizing an eastbound yacht race of approximately 1700 nautical miles across the Arabian Sea for our 21st-century Archer 78 yachts. Wishing you fair winds and may the enticing aroma of spices guide you safely to your destination!

Lake Namtso Ice Race

To kick off our annual Ice Yachting Series, we will travel to Tibet and to one of the World’s highest lakes, Namtso, the “Heavenly Lake”, at an altitude of 4720m. Just fly to Gonggar Airport via Kathmandu, and get a taxi to Lhasa where the Dali Lama lives, then hire a truck with guide to take you and your DN and gear a further 200km north across the Nyenchen Tanglha mountains to Xianga where a 95nm triangle will be beaconed out on the ice for your enjoyment. Although like most of the Tibetan lakes, Namtso is a saline sump with no outflows, rest assured it is bitter cold there and ice is guaranteed. Mind the monks, you’ve no PL!
